Since my last post didn't get one reply, I guess I'll fill out the form...
1) What is your budget?
no budget, but I would like to spend the least amount of money to get exactly what I need
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
d.
Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
e.
Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
Either Germany or USA
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I did have some preconceived notions, but apparently most mainstream manufacturers today make good quality laptops, so I'll approach this with an open mind...
a.
Like: I have had good experience with Asus desktop components
b.
Dislike: Apple computers (I do like my iphone and ipad though, but that's where by love for apple ends)
5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
After reading some of the stories on here, no.
6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Word processing
Internet
Multitasking with a number of programs I need for work (I'm a translator)
Occasionally watching HD movies
7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
On my desk, but taking it with me when I travel (two or three times a year)
8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
Nope, have a ps3, psp, 360, wii, and ipad for my gaming needs (love gaming, but never really got into pc gaming, dont know why)
9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Not important
10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
Doesn't matter
11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
Windows 7
Screen Specifics
12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer?
My current laptop has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050, which is fine, although sometimes text is hard to read (I have pretty bad eyes).
That being said, I can always use a bigger font or ctrl-scroll a website, so I would prefer a better resolution which allows me to have a number of windows open next to each other and would let me watch the occasional hd movie
13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I honestly prefer matte (my current notebook), but I'm sure I would get used to glossy, as I don't work anywhere with nasty overhead fluorescent lighting
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
not really
15) When are you buying this laptop?
The sooner the better, although I was wondering if I should wait until Sandy Bridge is out?
16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
I think everyone wants a laptop to last as long as possible...my Zepto 6615WD is going on 4 years, and it's fine, my dad just offered to buy me a new laptop for Christmas if I give him this one (which is better than the piece of junk he has)
Notebook Components
17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?
irrelevant, the cheapest available, as I will most likely get either an ssd or an hdd myself sometime down the road
18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
doesnt matter
So to summarize, although I will primarily be using this laptop for work, I do like the idea of being able to watch hd videos if so inclined.
As a result, the most important things to me are screen quality, keyboard quality, and the ability to multitask well.
I have been looking at laptops all over the map, from the Sony EB series to different Asus ones to Dell latitudes...just not really sure if I need a "business class" notebook, as I will not be lugging it to and from work each day, but I do want one that I can type on comfortably and quickly.
Thanks for the time and effort put in to make this site what it is, and thanks in advance for any suggestions...
