Does anybody know the price of new Asus N53SV( sandy bridge) laptops???
After finding out that there won't be any significant difference between the current N53 and N53SV (the new sandy bridge laptops) i am considering of buying the current one depending on its price if its around $1000 i will just wait..
XP Drivers for Toshiba A205-S5800
I'm experiencing the same problem as hundreds, if not thousands of others have before me. I picked up a beautiful Toshiba A205-S5800 used laptop that has the horrific Windows Vista Home Edition OS pre-installed.
After reading dozens of posts from people who have also wanted to downgrade to Windows XP, I gave it my best shot, and was able to successfully install the Windows XP Professional OS...
HOWEVER:
I was unable to obtain working XP drivers for the WLAN Adapter, Graphics Card, USB, or Display Adapter. None of the drivers from the Vista Restore Disc were compatible, and I couldn't find working XP drivers for the hardware on any of the Toshiba sites. Basically my Device Manager was filled with Yellow Question Marks.
If you're one of the few (I know you're out there) who was able to successfully get this model working 100% with Windows XP, I would greatly appreciate some of your wisdom, before I sell this for a more XP-friendly laptop.
Cheers,
Matt

Asus CPU Whine [work arounds]
Two methods that I have tried: First one = 60%, second one = 100% silent
(Tested on my N53JF-XR1)
i) Opening the "recording" tab in sound settings (it's like putting a silencer on the CPU whine)
1) Windows orb
2) Control Panel
3) Hardware and Sound
4) Sound
5) Recording
Whenever i'm on the recording tab, the CPU whine becomes silenced to around 40% of what it was. Try it by just pressing the other tabs and the whine comes back at full blast!
ii) Disabling processor idling (increases cpu&gpu temps and power consumption)
1) open regedit (press windows orb and type in regedit.exe and hit enter)
2) navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPowerPowerSettings
and search for 5d76a2ca-e8c0-402f-a133-2158492d58ad (CTRL-F to search)
3) double click Attributes and change the value from 1 to 0.
4) now right click on the power icon in the tray, go to Power Options,
5) click on change plan settings for your plan, then click on Change advanced power settings,
6) scroll down to Processor power management and you should see a setting called Processor idle disable, change it to "Disable idle". Click on Apply.

CPU and GPU temps increased around 10 degrees celcius for me so I opted out of this option.
Please post your solutions and/or results!

CF-30 Internal USB mods??
OK, is there any??
Also, would the combo drive to dvd burner mod be the same as it is on the CF-29?

White dots on Samsung HL-S5066W
I got the white dots issue on my 50" DLP and called in to Samsung to get help but I got a "your TV isn't affected by the white dots issue so you're on your own" response. Can't say I will ever buy a Samsung product ever again and really want to convince others to do the same.
Anyone know the ballpark figure on replacement parts for the white dots issue? Any compatible TVs I can harvest the parts from? Car got broken into, bike got stolen and now TV has turned into a perma starwars feature, fun life I'm having.

Buying from a live person vs website
It's two years since I bought my Latitude from , and I felt that talking to a salesperson on the phone not only helped me to get things right, but helped a little on price. I read the salespeople they have now are nowhere as knowledgeable on the hardware choices. I don't know if this was about the Home or Business side, but is there any reason to call, or can I get no better info (or deal) using the website?
Thanks

How to enable express gate
I have followed the instructions to install express gate, this is a new bb g73jh refurb I got for $850. I have tried to boot into express gate but I can't seem to be able to figure it out. I leave the turbo boost button pressed on boot, I try the holding down the space bar and in desperation I tried all the hot keys while booting and nothing gets me into express gate. Can anyone shed any light into the matter, maybe there might be a bios change I need to activate or something. The only thing I get is the ASUS animated boot screen with sound and then windows is starting but no express gate at all.
