Depends on how fussy U.S. Customs is and delivery conditions. It's about a 50/50 chance on it delivering early.

Netbook with 1024x768 for projectors

Hi

I'm looking to buy netbooks for my office. Basdically the most important requirement is that they output 1024x768 on their external vga output, since they will be connected to a variety of projectors (some which can't handle non-standard resolutions)

The few netbooks I've seen can't output 1024x768 (they can only output the resolution that is used for their lcd screen)

Does anyone know of a netbook that can do this?

I found your post odd as all the netbooks I've used did that resolution without any problem at all. Are you looking at specifications or did you try and fail when you tried this on a netbook?

Here our lowly Acer Aspire One can do this plus it's currently driving an external LCD at 1680x1050!

Can you list the "few netbooks" that don't work for you?

We only tested two models (what I meant by few). I think one of them was an Asus EEE pc and the other one I can't remember, but I think it wasn't a big brand netbook, imported for the South African market.

A question on the Acer Aspire One, is this in single mode or clone. I forgot to mention we would like it to be clone (same image on netbook and projector).

Any clone mode issue will extend to laptops and let's just say PCs. In your case you may have to find old laptops with the resolution you demand. I see those IBM T42's with that exact resolution for under 399 out on the market. You install XP, drivers and you have a solution.

As it stands, no laptop made today will do what you ask.

the chipset can handle XGA fine, but if you're using clone on a netbook standard WSVGA screen, you'll need to do something to make it work with XGA. you can force it to handle XGA in two ways, one where the screen becomes like a sliding panel up and down, and two where you modify the driver to squeeze in the extra pixels (but its becomes very slow). the alternative is ofcourse to just get a netbook with a better screen. Both the Dell mini 10, and HP mininote 2140 have a 720P screen option, and the more expensive Sony Vaio P, has a 1600x768 screen

I have Windows 7 Ult on an Acer Aspire One 10.1 and was trying to run Quickbooks, but couldnt see the bottom of the screen for the enter. After endless searches, I found this driver, and it allows you to change to 1024768 or 1152864! A real lifesaver for me! Now I dont have to carry my full-sized laptop! I upgraded to 2gb RAM and Quickbooks 2010 works great!!!
Hope this helps some of you! I am trying to post in ALL of the forums I had searched in in hopes some of you with the same problem find some "resolution" in it! It took me 2 days to find the answer!!!

But in all seriousness I'm working out a deal with Ray from Rugged Depot on potentially the same type of unit, but his doesn't come with GOBI for my Sprint. However, I think I can get the GOBI card for this CF-31 for $170 from buy.com



He's willing to give me a CF-31AWNEX1M model for $2500. That has a GPS too, which works out better than the other deal on eBay anyways!

Sony BD live password reset

So sad story is my 60 Gb PS3 bit the dust and I ended up getting a 320 Slim as a replacement, yea! Problem is that the backup of the old unit would not pass the password for Sony BD live over. The disk was trashed and MB errors. So direct transfer is not possible. Now I was joined up with Sony BD live and went through the steps to reset my password, nada.

It's the ninth circle of he[x2 L]. When I enter the email address to reset it tells me it doesn't exist. So I tested that by trying to recreate a new account with that email and it says rightly 'that email is currently used by another account'. So I try to set the account to another email which of it states ~ foolish human I'm on to your tricks ~. There doesn't seem to be any URL to go online and rest it like with WB. Anyone get this password reset to work? Anyone?

Read this before buying from Dell EPP/MPP

Long story short, I ordered two L702x's from the Employee Purchase Plan / Member Purchase Plan web site after extensive research here, with Dell chat, and with the technical service manual. Turned out the computers weren't right (didn't have four memory slots) because Dell chat didn't know what they were talking about as usual (I found this out after the usual excruciating multi-hour telephone exchange with Dell Customer Service and Technical support).



The good news is I ran across Denney James (Dell sales), who is in Dell-Texas, not some out-sourced customer non-service company somewhere. The long story short on that one is that he fixed all the problems I had pleasantly and quickly, and supported me all the way through. If only I had ordered by calling him instead of ordering from the web site I could have saved myself ten hours of frustration and two weeks of time.



My recommendation: If you are going to order a Dell from the EPP/MPP site, don't! Contact this guy instead and save yourself a lot of trouble! I sure wish I had!

No one else had something closer to what I wanted for even remotely close to the same price. I could have custom-built a Clevo for an additional $700, got an HP that lacked a couple of features I wanted, or gone to others with similar limitations, but why would I do that when Dell had the closest to what I wanted (all but the 1920x1200 screen size, which is basically discontinued by everyone) for hundreds less than everyone else?

? HP return policy seems better to me out of the 3; they're all 21 day returns, but both Dell and Lenovo ask for (up to) 15% restocking fees, while HP doesn't. Or were you referring to some other aspect of returns?

Huh? I've had every Dell account type ever offered, from home user to 50K+ enterprise, as well as education, and I've never run into this.



This is in the US (it probably varies by market) and as recently as December 2010 small business still got the 30-day "Total Satisfaction Guarantee" (100% refund, Dell pays return shipping). They like to offer people deals to keep the systems, though. Whether that works will depend on whether the reason for return is a better price elsewhere or something lacking in the system that can't be fixed. One example that bit us a couple years ago was that there were no PS/2 keyboard ports on whatever system the beancounters spec'd, while we use a custom 124+ key keyboard built for us that only comes in PS/2.



The reason I know about December was that the aforementioned beancounters ordered us Optiplex 960's (nice systems, BTW) but forgot the 2nd serial adapters. Dell business accessories and spares couldn't get us the add-on adapters, and I had to threaten to return the systems and re-order new ones with the exact same config, plus the serial adapters. That finally got their attention.

I like Dell. Anytime I have had a problem, I have usually had resolve to my situation. Sure, sometimes I have felt like I had to push for better Customer Service..but in the end all has been resolved.

GX740 able to use a 6970m?

As the title suggests curious as to the ability to upgrade the 5870m to a 6970m the newer cards even seem to be a bit cooler too so i don't see heat as a issue, will it fit in the same slot and what not?

Newer cards will not be cooler.

It's pretty much twice the TDP of the 5870, so it's gonna run a lot hotter.



The heatsink might also not be compatible.

I'd say that an OCed 5870M would be comparable to 6970M on stock clocks, when considering the temps. With proper cooling mods, GX740 might be able to handle 6970M thermal-wise. BIOS compatibility, PSU and power circuits on the MoBo may be a different story though.



5870M has TDP of 50W, but that's for the GPU chip ONLY, whereas on an MXM module there are also GDDR5 chips (which run very hot) and other components, which also generate heat. I think that an entire 5870M MXM 3.0B module has TDP of about 75W (on stock clocks).

How much would the 6970m use? The PSU can be fixed with buying a bigger one, but yer bios and mobo compatibility as well ascooling I guess is what I would be after but unless someone has done it no one would know I guess.

The Eurocom Racer has the option of a 5870 or 6970 as well as an array of nvidia cards. So unless they change the cooling for each card i would say it should fit, and my current card never goes over 80 so even if it is slightly hotter im sure it should be fine.
