How can I wirelessly print?

Hello, I don't have wifi in my apartment, but I vaguely recall hearing of other ways to wirelessly print...bluetooth maybe? I have an HP Pavillion dv9000 and a Brother DCP-350C. Is the any way to do this? Thanks!

Check if the printer has an option for that. HOWEVER many try those wifi print servers. I tried that a few times and found it better to get a wifi printer.

my samsung tv has whit dots all over the screen

Samsung dlp 3-4 years old .Has this happened to anyone? I know my tv is out of warranty so I don't know what to do. Anyone have this problem? Each day I watch tv there are more white dots, I know soon the tv will all be white. This is crazy, tvs should last much longer. Please help

Reply 1 : my samsung tv has whit dots all over the screen

Hello, I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, but you are one of many (may I say ALL) owners of Samsung DLPs with ever-multiplying white dots on their screens. In most cases, Samsung will do nothing and calling their customer service dept. will only get you heartache and frustration. Read the other threads related to white dots in the Samsung forum and maybe try what other people have done to get this resolved. I (and many like me) have gotten nowhere and now have 2 and 3 year old TVs that will cost upwards of $500.00 to fix, which given the other inherent problems with these defective TVs, is not worth the money or time. They are junk and they have to be disposed of.

Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news but I just started experiencing this several weeks ago and I have already had enough of Samsung and will NEVER again contribute to their bottom line by purchasing anything they manufacture.

Thanks for the heads up, I just read through several similar posts and I can't believe how common a problem this is for Samsung and for them not to help and provide service to fix the defect. I fearless like i have been ripped off. If i knew when i bought my TV that the lifespan was 5 years or less i would've never purchased.

Reply 3 : my samsung tv has whit dots all over the screen

Mine has the same issue. It started out as one white dot and multiplied every day. I called Samsung (1-800 SAMSUNG) and spoke to customer service. They stated that this is a known issue for DLP TVs manufactured around 3-5 years ago in which there is a faulty DMD Board. They offered to send a service technician to my home to repair/replace the faulty part at no cost to me.

GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

Hi all,

First post here. I searched through the threads and found some stuff that I thought would be helpful, but tried everything and I am still having this problem with my GX640-260US.

My laptop cooling fan constantly changes between medium and high even when I am just using the internet or word processing. It goes back and forth between medium and loud at random every 2-10 seconds. The fan will stay on high for a few seconds then drop back down. It does this constantly, even when I've stepped away from the computer for awhile and it's just sitting with the desktop and no applications open or running. It has done this since day one.

I am deployed in Iraq and we live in very close quarters. It drives me and my roommate crazy, especially when he is trying to read or enjoy quiet, and I don't blame him. It also makes it impossible to take it into meetings or use anywhere that is quiet. Everybody starts looking at me like what the hell am doing on my laptop that it is making such a racket.

The most recent thing I tried I got from a post here: using ATI overdrive, alter the profiles configuration file to underclock the GPU. I underclocked it all the way from 625 core/1000 memory to 400/500. It made no difference. Also, the manual fan control in ATI overdrive doesn't seem to make any difference either. Actually I don't even know if it's the GPU or CPU fan that is constantly switching and is so loud. I tried bios update, but MSI update utility says I have the most recent bios (American Megatrends 2.00.1201). I have the latest ATI driver, 11.2. My room is a constant 72 degrees and the laptop sits on a cooler master stand with more fans, so it's getting plenty of cool ambient air.

Is there anything I can do to stop this fan noise and the constant random speed switching every few seconds. It's driving me nuts!

Thanks.

I would open up the back and repaste both the CPU and GPU. Try that and see if it doesnt help. Sounds like you have a bad paste job and its keeping the temps high and causing the fan to stay ramped up.

Reply 2 : GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

go to the frostycomputers youtube channel it will show you how to repaste the CPU and do the same for the GPU.

Reply 3 : GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

Lower the clocks even more. Idling GPU @100/150 should keep the cooler from constantly switching its speed.

I guess GPU temp is about 53 (Celsius), and this is a temperature where cooler enters the next 'faster' phase. If GPU is keeping the temps around this level, then the fan will be constantly increasing/decreasing speed.

Other thing is, if the fan is getting extremely loud (as this phase should only be at very high temps: more than 95 C). In this case, repasting GPU could be a viable solution.

Reply 4 : GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

my room is full of fans. so i hardly hear anything from the laptop =) lol

Reply 5 : GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

Had the same issue. Since last week, the fan had become unbearably loud. The computer was idling at 75C. Something was obviously not right.

I had a look inside and to my dismay, a complete repaste was in order. I also noticed that the thermal pads around the GPU were barely touching the memory modules because of the copper shim mod I did some months ago. Took off the pads, cleaned up everything with alcohol, repasted both CPU and GPU and screwed everything back into place. And then what? BAM, 46C idle. Furmark test after 10 minutes: 73C. Furmark (Extreme burning mode) + Prime95 running at once: 83C.

Doctor's advice: repaste that . It's worth it.

Reply 6 : GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

Mine have been doing the same for about two weeks. I repasted the CPU and GPU with Arctic MX 4 but maybe I didn't it well because it didn't change anything about the noise. The temperature are still the same also I think. Right now, since powerplay is activated, I'm at 300/1000 with and idling aroung 51c. My computer is on a Zalman cooler but I doubt it runs at its full speed (I had to use a USB "divider" because of the lack of the GX640 ports).

The fan speed still changes a lot.

Now, maybe I should remove the thermal pads like Dakins did. Why not doing it also for the CPU pads?

Edit : I realised I put arctic silver 4 while it was arctic MX-4. Sorry.

The reason I removed them is that the heatsink does not make proper contact with the GPU because of the thickness of the thermal pads for the RAM modules. Hence the use of a copper shim to compensate for that. I found out recently that copper shims provide terrible thermal conductivity, further contributing to the heat issue.

I did away with the copper shims and thermal pads completely, and now the heatsink sits flush with the GPU and the RAM modules. And also those grey blocks that are likely voltage regulators. The CPU side of things doesn't have that issue. Just make sure that you use good, non-electrically conductive compound.

You shouldn't have to use an external cooling fan, it's pretty ridiculous if it comes to that.

I only use this external fan at home ^^ (it gives me some extra USB port anyways + a nice slope.

Do you think you could take a picture of the inside of your computer? I'm so NOT SURE which pads you did remove...

Reply 9 : GX640 fan speed constantly changes - loud and annoying - help!

Thanks for all the replies! So it's the GPU after all. Mine idles at 56C, or at least when I am using email, word processor, and other light duty apps.

I will begin surgery on my laptop as soon as I have all the required tools and materials together. Let's see: Arctic Silver 4, alcohol, q-tips, screwdriver, and a steady hand. I used to build systems, so I am generally familiar with how to mount heatsinks and being gentle with the chips and all. Acrctic Silver 4 still the recommended paste?

One question though. From reading the posts, do I remove the thermal pads from the GPU *and* the system RAM *and* CPU? Ar ethere thermal pads on all of these that need to be removed and then do I just repaste everything back together without the pads? I wonder why they put the pads in there in the first place of they are so problematical?

HomeGroup, One down, rest still working

Computer one: laptop HP w/ AMD Turion 11 Ultra. Computer two: AMD Phenom 11 X4 955 both running Windows 7, 64 bit, Computer three: Intel E8400 , Computer four: Intel E7400, Computer five: EEEBox Atom N270, all running Windows 7, 32 bit. All part of a home group, home network. Computers one and five are wireless, computers two, three and four are hardwired. All through the same router. All was working fine. Have 32 bit printer connected to computer three which computers four and five could print to thru the network. Have 64 bit printer connected to printer two that all computers can print to thru the network. File sharing was working through all computers to all computers. Was running mulit-player game play through computers one, two and three as these were computers that have the games on them. Suddenly computer one was not showing itself on the network. Thru it could see the other computers on the network but could not open up their shared folders. The other computers can still see all the computers on the network and open up all the shared folders, even computer two that can't even see itself. LAN play between all the computers still works, even with computer two. What has happened to make computer two not see itself or able to open up the other computers it still sees on the network?

Even with 7, names and passwords still cause folk problems like this.

Reply 2 : HomeGroup, One down, rest still working

We did not set it up to use passwords and nothing was changed. We all have password protected sharing turned off.

Reply 3 : HomeGroup, One down, rest still working

Antivirus and firewall updates tend to break this. It's why I added a note about the firewall.

Defective 2 yr old TV

LN32A330J1D when first powered up the picture is fine. After anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes the picture blurs, skin tones fade to pink and faces seem to have a black outline around them.
Should I get a Sony or is this repairable for a reasonable price?
TIA

XPS 15 "Delivery Preperation"

My order has been in Delivery Preparation since Saturday. I wonder how much longer until it actually ships? I have next day shipping. Can't wait...

Reply 1 : XPS 15 "Delivery Preperation"

That's an awful long time to put the laptop in a box and print an address label. ;-)

I ordered my XPS 15 on Friday and have an EDD of 5/5. I feel like I did in high school when I had concert tickets for my favorite band and the concert was not until the following month.

I hope you enjoy your lappy and will write about it in the owner's forum.

Reply 2 : XPS 15 "Delivery Preperation"

Yep it now shows shipped, I have never been so OCD about anything. I'm relieved.

Congratulations! I know exactly what you mean about being OCD. Mine has an EDD of 5/5, and yet I'm checking the website constantly for changes in the status. I need help.

Congratulation @ scott5626 . Ever since I placed my order on 3/31 I have been like totally OCD,checking the status page and after about 10 days the manufacturing build was complete and got shipped 4/12(what a relief) on express delivery, but due to state elections here on 4/13 the laptop is yet to be delivered , just hoping to get it today

Reply 5 : XPS 15 "Delivery Preperation"

I just ordered my XPS 15 just after midnight PST Tues, 4/12. Considering it's only been two days, with an EDD of 5/16, I've checked a ridiculous number of times. The funny thing is that the account summary page has changed order status to "Delivery Preparation" as of last night (Weds 4/13)! When I click on the order to see the full order page, it still shows "In Production," but if I click on those words, it lists out all the possible states and "Delivery Preparation" doesn't exist--it goes from "In Production" to "Shipped".

I was just searching on "Delivery Preparation" and found this. Wanted to share my experience for others to see examples. I will keep the thread updated as to what happens... Maybe I got lucky and got someone's order cancellation?!

My status also changed to "Delivery Preparation" today, but I ordered mine back on the 8th. Same thing happened to me when I clicked the link for order details: that page says "In Production."

I called Dell to find out what "Delivery Preparation" means and how long it will be until I get my computer. At first, the rep insisted that the info on the order details page is all he knows. Then, he put me on hold when I kept pressing, and when he came back, he told me that my machine was going into testing.

I believe testing is the final stage before boxing, and based on Scott5626's experience, I'm expecting this "Delivery Preparation" stage to take about three days. If that is the case, I should receive the beast long before the 5/5 EDD.
